Scope

This document specifies the raw material requirements, quality requirements, inspection methods, inspection rules, packaging, storage and transportation of germinated brown rice. This document applies to whole-grain brown rice products processed from paddy or brown rice (including purple rice, red rice, etc.) through pretreatment, germination, drying and other processes. This document does not apply to fresh wet germinated brown rice.

Introduction

1. Background of standard formulation and analysis of technological evolution

GB/T42173-2022 "Sprouted Brown Rice" standard was issued in 2022 and officially implemented in 2023. The standard was proposed by the State Administration of Grain and Material Reserves to regulate the production and quality management of sprouted brown rice and ensure the safety and consistency of the product. With the growth of consumer demand for healthy food, the market demand for sprouted brown rice, as a whole grain product with high nutritional value, has grown rapidly. However, the lack of unified quality standards in the industry has led to uneven product quality. To this end, this standard came into being to fill the gap in the industry.

3. Core technical requirements and interpretation

Raw material requirements: Paddy and brown rice must comply with the provisions of GB1350 and GB/T18810 to ensure the quality of basic raw materials.

Quality indicators: The quality indicators of germinated brown rice include color, smell, impurity content, broken rice content, etc. The following is a comparison of the main quality indicators:

4. Inspection methods and implementation suggestions

Case analysis: A company adopted GB/T5494 standard to test the impurity content of germinated brown rice and found that some batches exceeded the standard. By optimizing the production process and strictly screening the raw materials, the impurity content was finally controlled below 0.15%.
