Introduction

Core changes in the standard revision

Technical parameters Requirements of the 2009 version Requirements of the 2021 version Impact of changes
Methanol content Methanol + polyols (C2-C8) items Methanol volume fraction 82%-86% Simplified detection indicators, added ASTM D7920 test method
Sulfur content ≤80mg/kg ≤5mg/kg Environmental protection requirements have been improved, and the arbitration method has been changed to GB/T 34100
Vapor pressure ≤78kPa in winter
≤68kPa in summer
45-78kPa in winter
40-65kPa in summer
Set the lower limit to ensure low temperature startability
New items - Copper sheet corrosion ≤Level 1
Inorganic chlorine content ≤1mg/kg
Strengthen material compatibility testing

Analysis of key technical requirements

1. Component control

The standard clearly prohibits the addition of methylal, polyols and other substances, and requires that the methanol purity be ≥99.9%. Comparison of key indicators:

  • Manganese content: reduced from ≤2.9mg/L to ≤2mg/L
  • Water content: New ASTM D7923 test method, requiring ≤0.5%
  • Dye addition: Clearly use Candle red (Sudan IV) 8-10mg/kg

Test method upgrade

1. Determination of methanol content (Appendix A)

Dual-column gas chromatography:

  1. Polar TCEP column to separate hydrocarbons and oxygen-containing compounds
  2. Non-polar WCOT column to analyze methanol and internal standard (tert-amyl alcohol)
  3. Detection limit of 0.01% volume fraction

2. Inorganic chlorine detection (Appendix B)

Innovative use of potentiometric titration method:

Chlorine content range Detection scheme Precision
≥4mg/kg Direct titration method ±0.2mg/kg
<4mg/kg Standard addition method ±0.1mg/kg

Implementation suggestions

Special requirements for storage and transportation

  • Container material: Unprotected aluminum and butyl rubber hoses are prohibited
  • Breathing valve: Storage tanks must be equipped with desiccant breathing valves
  • Sampling specifications: Brown glass containers must be used to avoid metal contamination

Safety protection measures

Compile chemical safety data sheets in accordance with GB/T 17519, focusing on the following precautions:

  1. Neurological toxicity and risk of blindness caused by methanol vapor
  2. In case of fire, use alcohol-resistant foam fire extinguishing agent
  3. Immediately rinse with water for 15 minutes after skin contact
